Who said, and in what movie, “Wish I had a million dollars…HOT DOG!”  First clue:  it isn’t a summertime movie.  Second clue:  he wasn’t serving hot dogs though he was working at the ice cream counter in Gower’s Drug Store. (Just hold your answer for a moment.)

            Given the weather forecast for this Sunday and the sign-ups so far, there are going to be plenty of hot dogs at our Mosaic Fellowship Summer Picnic!

            “Where?” you ask.  Well, that brings me to your second quiz for the week:  What was the name of one of Spokane’s premier old-time parks whose 21 acres were donated to the city in 1897, which boasted natural triangle-shaped pond (swimming in summer and skating in winter) and which some thought was actually the crater of a long-extinct volcano?  (More recently it’s been referred to as “Spokane’s Stonehenge” by confused I-90 drivers.)   

When you figure out the answer (or peek at the historical postcard located at http://www.spokanehistorical.org/items/show/114), come and join this Sunday, 12:00-2:00 p.m., for great food, fellowship and fun.

Since no church picnic would be complete without games, we’ve organized seven (count them…7) different “lawn games” in which we will be able to do, in competing teams of three, everything from badminton to bocce ball, horse shoes to spike ball and much more.  Think of it as sort of “speed summer lawn games” at their best! 

So here are the particulars:

Time: 12:00-2:00 p.m.

Place:  Liberty Park, 302 S. Pittsburg St., 99202  (By the way, if you want to watch a short, interesting little documentary on Liberty Park, go to https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tQfTvGBSkJ4.  I guarantee you will learn things about this historic park you never knew.)

What to bring:

1. Food & your appetite:  It will be a great help to us in planning if you would go to http://www.perfectpotluck.com/meals.php?t=XWDE6066&v=a724b9124a and sign up (if you haven’t already), letting us know what you will be bringing in terms of a side dish or dessert for the picnic part. Mosaic will provide hot dogs, hamburgers, buns (& fixin’s) ice water, & iced tea. plates, utensils, cups & napkins.
2. Lawn chairs, blankets and games:  Since the park has very few tables, if you want a comfortable place to sit, plan to bring your own seating. There is always the grass, too. As far as games, feel free to bring any child-friendly games or more of the ones I’ve already mentioned. 
3. Your friends and family!

What NOT to bring:

1. Your cares.
2. Your anxieties.
3. Your work.
4. Your watches

Oh, and by the way, if you’re still wondering the answer to the first question, it’s Bobbie Anderson (playing the young George Baily) in It’s A Wonderful Life. (Answering Jimmy Stewart feels right, but it sadly isn’t.)  Hot dog, Bobbie!
