Moving…it’s almost a rite of passage in America…especially if you own a pickup truck. Just ask my boys or any others at Mosaic with pickups and/or trailers. They will tell you how moving “invitations” grow exponentially in relationship to the size of your pickup bed or trailer. But lest you think moving is a curse to be avoided, ask my son, David, what kind of vehicle he just bought for the next chapter of his life in the military. Hint: he’ll be on the move a fair amount.
Moving in America may just be the closest thing to living like an Abrahamic Bedouin—by faith. Every time we’re called to move, we’re reminded that this earth is not our final home (and our aching backs are not our final bodies). We’re truly “just a pass’en through.”
Events of this month, from our move as a church to the impending home-going of our dear brother Tom Bates, are all reminders that we as God’s children in this world are called to be a people “on the move.” Living “on the move” tends to help you travel lighter, change more frequently and live more deeply by faith. And as we’re seeing from our Sunday study in Galatians this summer, faith is the field in which life in the Spirit thrives.
So I have AN ANNOUNCEMENT: We really are moving as a church.
On Sunday, June 28th, we will start meeting at our new Sunday location for Mosaic worship. We’ll be moving 8 blocks east and 1 block north of our present location to The Healing Rooms headquarters at 112 E. 1st Ave. in downtown Spokane. This amazing international ministry that serves 70 countries and 3,000 locations worldwide will be our home for probably the coming year.
Trust me, this is going to be an upgrade of gigantic proportions! While we’ll be more limited in our mid-week meeting space from what we have enjoyed the last 8 years at our smaller Second Space Gallery, what we will have available on weekends is amazing.
For the first time in six years, we’ll be able to all worship together at one service at 10:00 a.m. We’ll have sufficient classrooms for the kids to be able to have three separate groups running during the service: 1.) babies & toddlers, 2.) grade school and 3.) junior high students. And we will have plenty of room to grow in a beautiful facility that can accommodate north of five-hundred people. And, YES, there is plenty of free parking!
So MARK YOUR CALENDARS and change your mindset as we take a step of faith into the future God has for us. June 28th and beyond at 112 E. 1st Ave. (between 1st and Pacific, Pine and Cowley, just east of Division St.). Look for our Mosaic sidewalk signs on Division, 2nd and 3rd each Sunday morning to point the way.
And one final thing about our moving summer. We’ll be hosting a variety of special fellowship events throughout the summer, from Silverwood Theme Park day coming up Friday, June 26th, (register NOW at http://mosaicspokane.com/event/2015-06-26-2015-mosaic-day-at-silverwood/) to more Picnics-In-the-Park like we had last Sunday and camping at the lake that we’ll have August 14-15 at Coeur d’Alene.
So don’t get lost in the moving this summer. Instead, dive into more faith-living with us as we follow the Spirit’s leading in this great adventure of “experiencing the heart of God in the heart of our city.”
Excited about faith-moving,
Pastor John
